Missouri Announces 2027 Teacher of the Year Finalists

DESE is pleased to announce the finalists for the 2027 Missouri Teacher of the Year. These outstanding educators were selected for their commitment to students, innovative classroom practices, and dedicated service to their school communities. 

Finalists represent districts and regions from across the state and were chosen following a thorough review process conducted by a committee of education professionals. Missouri’s Teacher of the Year program recognizes the vital role educators play in preparing students for success and highlights exceptional teachers who exemplify excellence in education. 

The 2027 finalists are: 

Nicole Crocker 

  • Agricultural Education, Grades 9-12, Branson R-IV, Branson High School 

Emily Klein 

  • Social Studies, Grades 10-12, Bayless, Bayless High School 

Christine Logan-Hollis 

  • Science, Grades 7-8, Kingston K-14, Kingston K-14 Middle School 

Sarah Moonier 

  • Science, Grades 9-12, Rockwood R-VI, Rockwood Summit High School 

Sarah Newton 

  • English Language Arts, Grade 7, Valley Park, Valley Park Middle School 

Sarah Steffens 

  • Reading Interventionist, Grades K-4, Fort Osage R-I, Elm Grove Elementary School

Bailey Womble 

  • Special Education, Grades K-2, School of the Osage, Heritage Elementary 

The finalists will be interviewed in-person on September 9 by a state selection committee comprised of former Missouri Teachers of the Year and representatives from educational organizations across the state. 

Each finalist is recognized for outstanding work and a lasting impact on Missouri students.  

Later this fall, DESE will announce the Missouri Teacher of the Year, who will go on to represent Missouri in the National Teacher of the Year competition and serve as the state’s national representative.
