Department’s Bill Gerling Wins Two Educator Awards from The Missouri Bar

Bill Gerling, director of social studies and personal finance curriculum with the Office of College and Career Readiness, has received the E.A. Richter Award & the Dr. Warren H. Solomon Award. The awards, presented in a ceremony at The Missouri Bar in Jefferson City, recognize Mr. Gerling’s devotion to student citizenship education.

“Teaching students to be good citizens is a vital component of their education,” said Deputy Commissioner Margie Vandeven. “Congratulations to Bill on this recognition from The Missouri Bar.”

The E.A. Richter award honors outstanding contributions by Missouri’s teachers, administrators and schools to citizenship education efforts in the state. Winners receive a plaque and $100.

The Dr. Warren H. Solomon Civic Virtue Award is named for the long-time social studies curriculum specialist with the Department. Dr. Solomon was known for promoting law-related education among Missouri Teachers.
