Transcripts and Diplomas

Do you need a copy of your high school diploma or transcript? Please pick from one of the following options.

I attended a public high school in the state of Missouri.

The Department of Elementary & Secondary Education does not keep copies of high school transcripts or diplomas – those are kept at your local school district’s superintendent’s office. However, school districts are not required to keep copies of the actual diplomas, but will have copies of your transcripts which show you graduated.

If the school you attended is no longer open, you should contact the superintendent’s office of the district that now serves the area where you attended.

If you encounter difficulty contacting the superintendent’s office, you may try your State Supervisor of Instruction. These are Department of Education employees throughout the state who work closely with the school districts in their areas and may be able to assist you with contacting the school district in question.

I attended a private school.

The Department of Elementary & Secondary Education only works with public schools in the state of Missouri. We do not have records of students who attended private school. If the private institution you attended is now closed, we suggest you check with the church or organization that sponsored the school – perhaps they would have information as to where the records are kept. You might also check with the county courthouse in the county where the school was located. Oftentimes, agencies will send the records to the Recorder’s office for safekeeping.

I obtained my GED or took the High School Equivalency Test.
Official GED/HiSET Transcripts are only available online. Colleges, employers, or individuals can enter their information and obtain a transcript.
I attended a charter school that has since closed.

To obtain a copy of your transcript from a charter school that is still in operation, please contact the charter school.

If a charter school you attended is closed, please see the contact information list posted here to learn how to locate your transcript.

I need a transcript from a college or university.

To obtain a copy of your transcript from a college or university, please contact that institution. If you have additional questions or the institution is closed, you can contact the Department of Higher Education at 573-751-2361.

I was homeschooled.

The Department of Elementary and Secondary Education does not regulate or monitor homeschooling in the state of Missouri. We do not require registration, nor are any records about homeschooling sent to us. We do not issue diplomas or keep transcripts for homeschooling. If you do not have your homeschooling records, check with the parent or guardian who administrated the homeschooling. If the records have been lost due to fire or other circumstances, check with the County Recorder of Deeds in the county where you were educated. If the records were filed there by the parent or guardian, they would have a copy.

I need a transcript from Missouri Course Access and Virtual School Program (MOCAP), formerly Missouri Virtual Instruction Program (MOVIP).
